The Cuban delegation attending the I Junior Pan American Games reported that after being diagnosed with covid-19, a member of her athletic team remains in the hotel destined here for those cases.
The island’s chief medical officer, Dr. Pablo Castillo, explained that the transfer took place after the antigen test was positive, carried out as part of the controls designed for the participants in the contest.
He maintained that the competitor, protected by the complete vaccination scheme, is asymptomatic and receives excellent care from the specialized personnel designated by the organizers, in accordance with the protocols approved for the event concluded this Sunday.
Castillo added that there is direct dialogue with the athlete’s family, who must remain in isolation until the result of her PCR is negative.
The director of the Institute of Sports Medicine of Cuba affirmed that another expert from that institution will follow up on the girl’s recovery and will return with her to the island once the medical discharge is issued.
