This June 27 is celebrated in the country the Biologist’s Day. The date highlights the work of all professionals in this area, who form a fundamental pillar of scientific development. The day remembers the first official act that involved this branch, which took place on June 27, 1812.
On this day, the work of the biologists, who are in charge of studying ecosystems, the diversity of living beings and developing different scientific investigations. Also, the date pays a special tribute to Bernardino Rivadavia.
On June 27, 1812, Bernardino Rivadavia requested in the First Triumvirate that the provinces gather elements to “begin the establishment in the Capital of a Museum of Natural History” and, with it, establish the Museum of Natural History.
In 1823, Rivadavia resumed his project and, together with General Martín Rodríguez, established the Museum of Natural History, which currently functions as Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences Bernardino Rivadavia. Today, it is one of the main natural science museums in the country.

Originally, the museum was located in the upper cells of the Convent of Santo Domingo and the Jesuit Office of the Manzana de las Luces. Only in 1937, the elements of the museum were moved to the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Caballito, where it is currently located.
It has different attractions. Among the most outstanding sections are: Birds, Seabed, Antarctica, Geology, Aquarium, Malacology, Paleontology, Arthropods, History of the Museum, the world of plants, Amphibians and reptiles, and Current Mammals, among others.
