Last week, the INE signed agreements with the governments of Coahuila and Nuevo León for the search and identification of disappeared persons, through the verification of fingerprints of corpses with biometric data from the Electoral Register.
Córdova recalled that the electoral register records are the largest and most reliable database of the Mexican State, since 94 million 164,000 citizens have entrusted the INE with their biometric data (the 10 fingerprints) to obtain their credential, the main identification mechanism in Mexico. .
These personal data of Mexicans are under the protection of the INE and are not delivered to any authority, but the register can be consulted electronically to find out if the fingerprints -sent by the authorities- match the database records.
