With the lack of a fixed figure presented in consensus, the opposition sector is at the wrong time in the process of electing a candidate for the presidency.
Participating in an interview with Mina Feliciangeli’s program, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Euclides Acevedo, and the former President of the Republic, Fernando Lugo, spoke about the political situation of the opposition and possible candidates to be presented as figures for the general elections.
Among them, the name of the former Minister of Finance, Dionisio Borda, sounded like an option on the part of Lugo, who highlighted the figure of the economist as someone serious, credible and without rejection even in the international community. However, Acevedo’s profile was also analyzed as another alternative.
“I will be a fool and a liar if I say that I am not interested in the exercise of power,” said the minister, adding that he can accompany a badge, he can go to Parliament or serve as the Attorney General back, but above all he wants to be a political animator .
ALFREDO BOCCIA PAZ
“Although these names appear, as well as others, they will not have force if they do not have the support of the main opposition party: the PLRA,” determined the political analyst, Alfredo Boccia Paz. In that sense, he sees the situation of the opposition in a bad state, comparing it with the clear figures from the Colorado Party.
Thus, he affirmed that the central problem of the opposition lies in the Liberal Party, since the divisions between Efraín Alegre and Blas Llano do not guarantee a successful agreement or alliance for the opposition.
“It will be possible to have the best candidate in the opposition and even so, without a political structure, it will not be possible to defeat the ANR, if only one part of the Liberal Party supports the sector, while another boycotts it,” said the analyst.
Boccia Paz said that between Efraín Alegre and Blas Llano, the figure of one must die or in any case an agreement must be carried out because, otherwise, this bog down will continue until it is too late and the Colorado Party wins very easily. .
MARIO PAZ CASTAING
Despite the slowness to establish figures in the same way as the Colorado Party, for the political analyst Mario Paz Castaing the opposition still has time to start its campaign.
“Advancing concretely is possible up to six months before the registration of the concertation, but it cannot be delayed any longer because the Colorado candidates are already fully mobilized and touring the country,” explained the expert.
Likewise, he argued that despite the names shuffled on behalf of the opposition sector, what is really lacking are projects of political articulation with the greatest possible agreement. Regarding the figure of Euclides Acevedo as a possible candidate, Paz Castaing mentioned that it is interesting because it consists of an important political actor.
“For his part, Dionisio Borda is one of the best economists in the country, with an extraordinary career; his own efforts speak for him. He never presented himself as a political actor, he is more of a statesman, but I do not rule out his figure because he is someone very capable, “he said.
MILDA RIVAROLA
For the political scientist Milda Rivarola, due to electoral fraud and mistakes made by the opposition, the electoral space was moved to the Colorado Party and opponents only meet to position their candidates for the Legislature, but not to fight for the Presidency .
“Euclides does not have a party formula at this time, but he is considered a practically red figure, and the Liberal Party will not give up the presidential candidacy to any opposition space, even if that means putting someone who may lose,” Rivarola explained .
As for Dionisio Borda, the political scientist highlighted his excellence as an economist, but since he is not a politician who distributes perks or does not respond to corruption, no one will tolerate him.
“For this reason, I fear that the same thing will happen as in other countries: only the extreme right will be able to end the Colorado hegemony; and we are already beginning to observe this, because Cartes and his team sell themselves with the ideology of a harder and more conservative right ”, he concluded.
