MMG’s announcement to halt copper production from The Bambas generated that Chinese Peruvian Chamber of Commerce (Capechi) communicate its concern to the Government.
“We express our concern at the lack of decision-making by the Executive Power, which harms trade relations between two sister countries,” he said in a statement.
The business union too urged the Government “to make decisions quickly to avoid further instability situations and that the national economy continues to be damaged ”.
Las Bambas, Capechi noted, is a mining operation that generates more than 8,000 direct and indirect jobs and represents 2% of world copper production.
However, this production capacity would be affected by the continuous blockades that prevent the free movement of workers, suppliers and the entry of basic necessities.
“We invite Las Bambas, the communities and the Executive Power to establish spaces for equitable dialogue, whose sole objective is the search for development opportunities, all within a framework of respect and responsibility with the country, “said Capechi.
