Bishop Lugones: "social integration is achieved through redistribution"

The head of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral maintained that “a critical spirit is needed in the face of the power of the media.”

The president of the Commission for Social Pastoral Care of the Argentine Episcopal Conference, Monsignor Jorge Lugones, stated this Saturday that “there is no way to achieve social integration without redistributing wealth”, when presenting at the Social Week 2022 meeting organized by the ecclesiastical authorities and that takes place in Mar del Plata.

“Pope Francis never proposes that people live on subsidies. He never tires of saying that helping the poor with money should be a temporary solution to solve emergencies. The good of the people should always be to allow them a decent life through work” , expressed Lugones in a conference called “a habitable homeland” that is part of this conclave that takes place in the hotel July 13 of the seaside resort.

In that line, the religious evaluated that “there is no worse poverty than that which deprives of work and dignity. There must be political and business creativity to increase jobs instead of reducing them” and encourages “the creation of diversified job sources”.

“Encourage us to leave private interests aside and seek paths to build consensus necessary for comprehensive development and thus contribute to the “globalization of solidarity”Monsignor Jorge Lugones

“With which the necessary help must be counted on until the consolidation of sustainable popular economy models. The possibility of decent work is the consequence of a model that must put production before speculation, distribution before concentration and hoarding, the common good to sectoral profitability”, he underlined.

The head of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral maintained that “public policies that come out of short-termism and a critical spirit in the face of the media power that, responding to sectoral economic interests, reduce politics to spectacle and disqualification” are needed.

“We will not be able to rule out any political force or movement. Each one always has something good to contribute for the common good. In this integration process we must discuss our positions; settle our differences and find new consensus. Bearing in mind that the administration of life in society is not only the task of political power, but is also conditioned by other powers, such as the judicial or economic ones,” he stated.

“You must have the necessary help until the consolidation of sustainable popular economy models. The possibility of decent work is the consequence of a model that must put production before speculation”Monsignor Jorge Lugones

And in that sense, he added: “A habitable homeland is the responsibility of all the actors, each one from their role and responsibility.”

The Bishop of Lomas de Zamora spoke in favor of “a Homeland of brothers that is the antithesis of hatred and cracks. Something that is only conceivable from integration and respect for those who are different.”

“Encourage us to leave private interests aside and seek paths to build the necessary consensus for comprehensive development and thus contribute to the ‘globalization of solidarity’ and fraternity, instead of discrimination, division and indifference”, he pointed out. .
