LGBTIQ+ community denounces that their rights have been taken away in Nicaragua

In addition, he pointed out that the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega has used the pseudolegality to cancel more than 600 NGOs that worked to defend the rights of “historically vulnerable populations.”

“Nicaraguan lesbians, homosexuals, bisexuals, trans and non-binary people in Costa Rica continue to demand freedom, justice, democracy and recognition of our citizen rights to society,” he said.

The sexually diverse community in Nicaragua also demands that the State respect their rights. The Ortega government maintains an alliance with radical sectors of the evangelical and Catholic churches.

The Nicaraguan group for sexual diversity also denounced that in Nicaragua there is no freedom for “our population and, speaking out against a dictatorship brings consequences such as repression, violence towards our right to mobilize and to continue our struggle in the streets.”

“The persecution of the Ortega-Murillo dictatorial regime has been brutal and because of this discrimination has increased disproportionately against citizens,” he stressed.

Nicaraguan social and political activists in exile also joined the demands of the LGBTIQ+ community, who denounced the violence suffered by dissident bodies, such as the case of Denis Madriz and Ezequiel Mendoza; murdered in 2018 in Nicaragua.

They also demanded justice for “Kendra Contreras, socially known as Lala, a trans woman murdered in 2021 and the hate crime against Genaro that occurred in 2022 in Costa Rica” and demanded the immediate and unconditional release of political prisoners “Nahum Olivas, Yader Parajón, Muamar Vado and the more than 190 people that the Ortega-Murillo regime keeps kidnapped and deprived of their liberty for political reasons.

“Today we raise our voices for those who are no longer here, for those who seek justice for the victim of hate, that is why we march demanding no more murders, no more hate crimes. We demand equal rights, freedom for all political prisoners, freedom for Nicaragua and a safe return for all exiles”, concluded the exiled LBTIQ+ community in Costa Rica.
