They denounce greater physical and psychological torture against José Daniel Ferrer

The national coordinator of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (Unpacu), José Daniel Ferrer, is subjected to increasing “physical and psychological torture” in the Mar Verde prison, Santiago de Cuba, where he is being held. This was what the opponent’s sister made known this Saturday, Ana Belkis Ferrer.

Meanwhile, Cuban Prisoners Defenders (CPD) accused to the Cuban regime of “killing José Daniel Ferrer” with “sonic attacks, psychotropic drugs, refusal to allow the family to give him food.” He evidenced that he does not receive “medical attention” and is kept in an “inhuman confinement between four walls, without seeing the sun and incommunicado.”

At the beginning of November, Cuban Prisoners Defenders asked the high representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, to intercede “immediately” on behalf of the opposition José Daniel Ferrer. And he warned that the Unpacu coordinator denounced “a constant noise in his head as if they were crickets, constantly ringing in an unbearable way”, which causes him a continuous headache.

Ferrer was allowed last Friday to receive a visit from his wife Nelva Ismarays Ortega Tamayo with little Daniel José and his daughter Fátima Victoria Ferrer Cantillo. “The dictatorship of Raúl Castro and Díaz Canel allowed the second family visit to José Daniel Ferrer García in almost five months of unjust, arbitrary and criminal confinement,” said Ana Belkis.

José Daniel Ferrer Cantillo was prevented from seeing his father. What was taken as “a punishment and revenge for taking to the streets once again demanding freedom, on November 15”

And in an extremely arbitrary measure, they prevented José Daniel Ferrer Cantillo from seeing his father. What was taken as “a punishment and revenge” for the young man “for taking to the streets once again demanding freedom, on November 15,” the day the Archipelago platform called for a peaceful demonstration but harassment and repression by the State Security ended up frustrating it.

In August, the People’s Provincial Court of Santiago de Cuba notified Ferrer that he had to comply with the sentence of four years in prison that a court imposed on him in February 2020 for “injuries and deprivation of liberty” against a third party. The opponent was detained since the protests of July 11, until that moment he had a subsidiary sanction that kept him free.

The court considered that the Unpacu coordinator maintained “an attitude contrary to the requirements that he must meet” because he did not have an employment relationship and “has repeatedly assumed incorrect behavior that defies the authority in the performance of his duties.”
