The administration of Daniel Ortega, with its fourth candidate proposed to occupy the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SICA), the Nicaraguan Werner Vargas-Torres; has managed to get the support of the other member countries of the organization to be granted the high administrative position
After almost a headless year, this Thursday, June 23, a consensus has been achieved so that Nicaragua can assume the General Secretariat of SICA, which corresponds to it in rotating order.
In a releasethe Foreign Ministry of Costa Rica reported that the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the organization met this Thursday with the objective of “advancing in the process of electing the Secretary General of SICA.”

In addition, he indicated that during the virtual meeting “the new shortlist sent by Nicaragua to assume” the position was considered.
For its part, the administration of Rodrigo Chaves joined the consensus reached at the meeting with the purpose of “raising the list to the Meeting of Presidents and recommending Mr. Werner Vargas, former Executive Director of SICA (2014-2020), to be elected as secretary general of the organization.
“With this decision, progress is made in the process of regularizing the operation of SICA and with it, the reactivation of international cooperation with the region,” assured the Costa Rican Foreign Ministry.

The shortlist presented by the Daniel Ortega regime, in its fourth attempt at approval, is made up of Werner Vargasformer Executive Director of SICA (2014-2020) during the presidency of the Guatemalan Vinicio Cerezo in the organization; Myriam Vasquez, who has held technical and legal advisory positions in organizations and the Government; Y Claudio Aranalegal adviser to the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry.
Ortega’s new file has extensive experience in matters related to cooperation through SICA, which helped him gain the support of member countries.
According to the information in your professional profile On LinkedIn, Werner Vargas has served as Secretary of Parliamentary Affairs in the Central American Parliament from 2000 to 2008; director for European Union issues and chief of staff at the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry between 2008-2010.
In addition, he was a legal collaborator of the Central American Court of Justice (CIJ) in the period 2010-2014, a position he left to occupy the executive direction of SICA (2014-2020). Currently, he is in charge of the Office Sub-headquarters of the Central American Institute of Public Administration in Guatemala.
