The first religious activity of Monsignor René Leigue, recently installed as archbishop of Santa Cruz, was the celebration of the festive mass in honor of the patron saint San Juan, in Porongo, where the festivities were canceled due to the triple murder of police officers.
During the homily, he lamented the “terrible situation” that put the municipality in mourning, where every year the traditional walk on the coals is celebrated in the middle of a popular festival in the main square.

“Perhaps it is not now, it comes from before and it has reached that extreme. There are situations that are not well seen around here and they are not saying anything. They can be avoided”said Leigue, who asked the parishioners and authorities present to Porongo needs to regain his peace of mind, “there is danger in their streets and from unity they can achieve it.”

Monsignor Leigue arrived this Friday very early in Porongo. At the welcome gate, a group of young people with white and yellow balloons were waiting for him, then he went to the atrium of the church to the sound of the tamborita and the ringing of bells.
In the middle of the journey a girl placed a garland on him. The parish priest Osvaldo Peña and Mayor Neptaly Mendoza, who gave him an award, they gave him an official welcome before starting the celebration.
