Fernando Aramburú Porras talks about the PRD, Benicio, Martinelli and justice in the country

It seems that the old members of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) are disappointed in this administration and leadership of the current government.

We refer to the recent resignation of this group by Fernando Aranburú Porras, who joined the one already announced a few months ago by the former Minister of Youth, Children and the Family, Leonor Calderón, and that of the economic adviser in the Ministry of the Presidency David Saied Torrijos, who was removed from office a few days ago after questioning the actions of some PRD leaders.

According to the former Minister of Economy and Finance, the party has been filled with people who do not share these ideals and values. “It has been filled with people who have personal and particular situations, but they are looking for something else (we are talking about some deputies and the people they have brought), they have kidnapped the party,” he added.

He affirmed that he does not see a possibility for a renewal, “I do not see that it has a north, where it is going, what is the party looking for; this government has not done the things it has had to do. It had to face the issue of Social Security , it did not, that is unfortunate because our insurance is about to go bankrupt, the IVM program is about to go negative, that is not the PRD that I knew; the PRD that I knew would have faced that problem, regardless of the political cost.

He asserted that he sees a PRD that is more “clientelist and believes in subsidies to maintain social peace.” He said that he disagrees with subsidies because what people want is work, not subsidies.

The also former president of Apede, stressed that he remains independent, has no political ambition and much less resigned from the PRD to join another party.

It refers to Benicio Robinson

Aramburú Porras also referred to the PRD deputy Benicio Robinson, whom he said he had known for many years.

“The figure of Benicio is highly questioned and controversial, he is not the person with a vision of the future, I do not see him and I do not think he has greater ambitions than he has now, which is the management of the party, the management of his province, the commission of Budget; I respect it, they are its goals, but I do not agree with that, because a party like the PRD, which is the majority, has to have a vision of the country, a work agenda, participate in the decisions of fiscal, economic, social activate their best cadres. The PRD has valuable people and that is what gives me the most pain,” he said.

Political landscape ahead of the 2024 elections

According to the former official, the political landscape is complicated. At the same time, he expressed that one of the imponderable factors is that former president Martinelli run.

“It seems that it will be a contest of four or five opponents, the vote will be very divided, but we want to see proposals, what will be done to stop corruption,” he said.

He stressed that the State cannot be the loot of the whole world, “it seems that the only thing that some are looking for is how the concessions, resources, exonerations, subsidies are distributed.”

He emphasized that “it would be disastrous for former President Martinelli to repeat the mandate after everything he has said and what we all know.”

Administration of justice in the country

The issue of the administration of justice in Panama has always been on the lips of citizens, so for Aramburú Porras, it seems that “justice in Panama does not exist.”

He said that he sees no progress in several cases that have been going on for years and no one has been sanctioned.

“There is an impunity, that with a little resources and hiring the right lawyers you have no risk of being convicted, therefore, you can do whatever you want, steal money from the State, run over, kill someone, etc. and you will not be persecuted or condemned,” he said.

What does the country need?

In the opinion of the former official, difficult times are coming, the economy is growing, but interest increases are coming that will hit the pocket of the Panamanian.

He recommended to the citizens that they elect a president who knows how to manage, lead, who is honest, who has a vision of the country, who does not work for the next elections.
