The Legislature of Buenos Aires sanctioned this Thursday a series of changes in the parking system that currently rules in the City of Buenos Aires, which has generated criticism from the local opposition.
The measure promoted by the local government seeks to simplify the parking system in force, which essentially prohibits Park cars at some points in the City and at specific times.
In this sense, the new parking system modifies these regulations and allows parking on both sides of the streets; because currently it is forbidden to leave the car on the left side.
As to avenues, on business days parking will be prohibited from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; as well as on streets with bike paths, avenues with Metrobús and passages, at any time and day of the week.
It is also established that the motorcycles be parked “with their butt between 45 and 90 degrees”, which modifies the current regulations, where drivers are required to park parallel to the sidewalk.
For its part, for the logistics of loading and unloading merchandise, it was established that the process should be done only within the permitted places and times. In addition, it is required that the vehicle does not remain parked for more than 30 minutes, since otherwise it will be considered an infraction.
The new regulations will come into force in 2023 and will cover the 2,100 streets, 150 alleys and 230 existing avenues in the City, as established by the Buenos Aires Transit and Transportation Code.
The regulation was approved with 31 votes
During this Thursday’s session, the Buenos Aires Legislature approved the new parking system with 31 votes in favor; however, the measure received 24 votes against. Now the Buenos Aires Executive has 180 days to implement the changes.
In addition, the areas must be demarcated with posters or with the curbs painted yellow where, in any case, parking will be prohibited.
