The carrier guilds they ask the Government to consider heavy transport activities as a public service, in addition, they demand the honesty of diesel prices.
“We ask that the condition of public service be returned to heavy transport in order to have minimum mandatory operating costs, because otherwise there would be legal problems,” said Javier Marchese, president of the National Union of Heavy Cargo Carriers.
He also commented that they were previously disavowed by Confiep before the Constitutional Court for not having been a public service.
“We hope that the Legislative and Executive will issue the Supreme Decrees to modify the status of heavy transport to public service”, stressed Marlon Milla, president of the Guild of Transporters and Heavy Load Drivers.
Along these lines, he commented that the unions had a meeting 20 days ago with the head of the MTC, Juan Barranzuela, and “promised that he and his team were going to solve said demand.”
On the other hand, the unions ask for the honesty of the prices of diesel, which is the fuel used in trucks.
Javier Marchese argued that 60% of diesel in Peru is “National product, it is produced in the jungle and is transported through the pipeline to the refinery. We only import 40% of this fuel.”
Finally, the representatives of the transportation unions indicate that tomorrow they will have a meeting at the MTC at 10 am, where they hope to reach a consensus.
