The seventeenth edition of the Fair International ExpoCaribe was inaugurated this Thursday in Santiago de Cubafor the purpose of promoting the foreign trade and foreign investment on the Island, according to official media.
The opening ceremony, hosted by the main hall of the Heredia Cultural Complex, included words of welcome and thanks to the participants by the Governor of Santiago, Beatriz Johnson, and the Minister of Foreign Trade and the Foreign investmentRodrigo Malmierca.
The minister affirmed that Cuba aspires to promote its exportable funds and promote import substitution at ExpoCaribe, as well as attract foreign investment, mainly to the east of the country, as reported the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
In addition, he thanked the presence of foreign companies and exhibitors, as well as 250 Cuban companies “with the aim of exhibiting their products and services, maintaining contacts with foreign counterparts and taking their economic and commercial relations to a new level,” adds the office.

The opening day was also attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Jamaica, Franklin Witter, and the ambassador of BelizeLu Ann Martínez, who considered the event a key opportunity for the unity of the Caribbean countries in the face of current geopolitical challenges, refers the agency Latin Press (PL).
As a representative of the Community of Caribbean States (Caricom)whose presidency pro tempore her country boasts, the diplomat considered the celebration this year of half a century of that organization’s relations with Cuba a “golden jubilee” and criticized the “unjust and immoral” embargo of the United States to the largest of the Antilles.
The Belizean ambassador said that the countries of the region are facing the negative impact of the pandemic and climate change, before which she insisted on economic diversification, innovation and regional cooperation.
After the pause forced by the pandemic, ExpoCaribe now resumes its performance every two years in the midst of difficult economic circumstances on the Island and internationally, accentuated by the War in Ukraine. At the same time, it represents a door to the world for all the country’s economic actors, including the MSMEs and non-agricultural cooperatives as a new form of management within the economic framework of the Island.
