The Office for the Reorganization of the Transportation (Opret) began the tunneling process last Tuesday and there are now 41 meters of the only underground section of the Line 2-C of the Santo Domingo Metro which will connect with the María Montez station.
It is about 800 meters of excavation from kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway at the María Montez station to the Las Mercedes school in the Enriquillo neighborhood, whose work is being carried out by the contracting company Ingeniería Estrella.
At the beginning of this month, the work on the transition portal, one of the parts of the tunnel excavation process, was completed, and later the tunneling process began. It is projected that the works will conclude at the beginning of 2024 when it would be inaugurated by President Luis Abinader.
Once this part is completed, the electromechanical installation work will be carried out, scheduled to be completed in 10 months, so far work is being done on the emptying of the concrete slab for the entrance to the tunnel and the construction of the drainage system at the entrance. of the same.
Line 2-C will cost approximately 500 million dollars and it will have an extension of 7.3 kilometers from kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway to the entrance of Los Alcarrizos, of that extension it will only have 800 meters underground, the rest is elevated with five stations.
The elevated part that begins on the Manoguayabo or Los Beisbolistas highway with Autopista Duarte comprises a two-lane marginal road. The second part of the eviction of properties in the Enriquillo neighborhood has already begun. The first part was the purchase of more than 60 properties where the tunnel exit will be.
All stations will be on one side of the freeway with access from the street at ground level. They are going to join a marginal road to decongest the Duarte highway, along the entire line. The project also contemplates the adaptation of the roads adjacent to the marginal, to produce a better flow of vehicles.
It is expected to increase road safety, reduce user congestion at kilometer 9 and thus reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
The authorities assure that the works will generate in their entirety around 2,500 direct jobs and a similar amount indirect.
