Justice 11J asks for support to make the situation of prisons in Cuba visible

MADRID, Spain.- The human rights organization Justicia 11J presented a new campaign to raise awareness of the situation in Cuban prisons and denounce the conditions in which the political prisoners of the regime find themselves due to the popular demonstrations of July 11, 2021.

Via tweetr Justice 11J highlighted the urgent need to involve different actors in what will guide its next actions: “get our prisons observed in situ by international facilitators and members of civil society”.

Through a statement, he recalled that he has been collecting testimonies “about the current situation of those who pay sentences for claiming rights.” However, “none of this has been contemplated and denounced by international organizations for the defense of human rights or humanitarian assistance, since since the 1980s, no international body has entered our prisons,” declared Justice 11J.

He also denounced the official media that describe the protesters as “hooligans who deserve severe punishment.”

“While thousands of us denounce injustices and abuses in prisons, government spokesmen compare them to spaces for rest and leisure”, he highlighted.

The statement also indicates that there is not yet a definitive number of people detained for their participation in the July 2021 protests and it is unknown how many people have been released, how many remain in state custody and are under investigation.

“The most complete statement in terms of disaggregated information was published on January 25 on the official website of the Attorney General’s Office, but this publication has since been withdrawn,” Justice 11J said.

To support this campaign the organization summoned artists, influencers and all those who have “the will to bring justice” to spread the demand, sharing messages and information, tweeting and using the tools for action.
