National Office of Statistics and Information: 7.5 million Cubans have access to the Internet

According to the National Office of Statistics and Information (Onei)at the end of 2021, 7.5 million Cubans had access to the Internet.

According to the website of the Cuban Parliament, at a meeting of the Council of State, compliance and implementation of Decree-Law No. 35 on Telecommunications, Information and Communication Technologies and the Use of the Radio Spectrum were analyzed.

According to the Radio Rebelde station, other information related to the state of Cuban telecommunications was provided at the meeting. For example, of the Cubans with Internet access, six million connect through cell phones.

Likewise, it was reported that 618 popular councils already have 4G technology, including all provincial and municipal capitals. And that more than 260,000 homes have an Internet connection through the Nauta Hogar service.

Other data disclosed at the meeting refers to the existence of 7.21 million cell phone subscribers and 1.54 million fixed line subscribers.

It was exhorted to expedite the process of transition from analog to digital television and to ensure that each new settlement, distribution or community has all the communication services.

Finally, it was announced that since 2013 more than three million decoder boxes for digital television have been sold and that there is 76% population coverage of standard television and 46% of high definition.
