Cuba: open call for the creation of new MSMEs and non-agricultural cooperatives

The Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP) of Cuba opened this Wednesday a new call for the creation of MSMEs and non-agricultural cooperatives in economic activities related to commerce and the organization of events.

The agency indicated through its Twitter profile that the opening of this call implies that the filed applications that correspond to these activities will be activated immediately and will begin to be processed from the date of entry in the Platform of Economic Actors, starting with the Older.

In addition, the MEP pointed out that the new applications received on the Platform would begin to be processed and reiterated that the possibility of submitting applications for the previously convened activities remains open.

The number of new actors in the Cuban economy already exceeded 3,800. According to the data provided by the MEP, 55% of the applications that received the green light to operate are reconversions of pre-existing businesses and the remaining 45% correspond to new ventures.

The Cuban government hopes that these new forms of management contribute to the creation of more than 60,000 new jobs.

MSMEs, whether private or state-owned, are part of the current economic scenario on the Island, the result of the reforms carried out by the Executive of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, in which non-agricultural cooperatives, self-employment and self-employment also coexist. the socialist state company, considered by the government as the main actor in the Cuban economy.

The legislation allows them to have one or more partners, to be constituted as commercial companies and to be classified depending on the number of employed persons as: micro-enterprise, whose range of employed persons is from one to 10 persons; small business, from 11 to 35; and medium-sized company, from 36 to 100 people.

MSMEs have their own legal personality, can export and import through state entities, and have been authorized for activities related to accommodation, beauty services, food production, manufacturing, information technology, logistics and transportation activities. , among other. However, they cannot access spheres considered strategic for the State, such as health, telecommunications, defense and the press.
