For more than 4,900,000 dollars, Panama will hire a company in an exceptional way to supply prepared food to migrants who are housed in the migration reception stations of San Vicente and Lajas Blancas, in the province of Darién.
This decision was adopted by the Cabinet Council, which assured that this hiring is done to deal with “the critical situation that exists in the province of Darién with thousands of migrants who, for the most part, make the journey accompanied by infants. and that are found in the shelters of this province”
Through Cabinet Resolution 70-22, this procedure was approved between the Ministry of Public Security and the company Marbez Distributions Corp., for an amount of B/.4,946,823.00.
The Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino, explained that to date 46,415 people have passed through the migrant reception stations, which implies that a thousand people are passing through the border every day.
“The impact on our communities is minimal due to the management we give it. There is coordination with international organizations and we are strengthening our camps and also verifying everyone who enters through the Darién. This year the number of people with pending cases in the United States who are immediately deported to their country of origin has doubled,” Pino said.
Most of the migrants who cross the Darién jungle on their way to the United States are Venezuelans, followed by Haitians and Cubans in much smaller numbers.
