Mark Vito: why is the prosecution asking for 22 years in prison?

The marriage between Mark Vito Villanella and Keiko Fujimori has united them in a series of electoral and judicial battles during the almost 20 years of life together. On the morning of last Tuesday, the leader of Fuerza Popular reported their separation.

However, the closeness between the two led the Public Ministry to initiate an investigation against Villanella, because, according to the tax thesis, his company would have served within the money laundering scheme that Fujimorism received in his past campaigns. For this, he has an accusation of 22 years and eight months in prison.

The prosecution considers that Villanella’s work and sources of income are not transparent, which is why prosecutor José Domingo Pérez has decided to expand the investigations against Keiko Fujimori’s husband.

For her part, the former presidential candidate is being investigated for the crime of money laundering, due to alleged illicit contributions she would have received in the 2011 and 2016 electoral campaigns, including from the Odebrecht company.
