Cuba and Russia analyze cooperation in the health sector

The Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas, met this Tuesday in Moscow with the head of Russian Health, Mikhail Murashko, to examine the prospects for collaboration in that sector, according to media reports from the Eurasian nation.

During the exchange they analyzed the most promising areas for the development of Russian-Cuban cooperation in health, according to a statement issued by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Health. reviewed by Sputnik.

The note explains that among the most promising areas of cooperation stands out the joint work in the development of vaccines, as well as training and projects in oncology. “Cabrisas Ruiz highlighted the closeness of the positions of Cuba and Russia on key health issues and invited Mikhail Murashko to visit Cuba to continue discussing joint projects and strengthen friendly contacts between the two countries,” the text underlines.

In addition, Murashko and Cabrisas discussed mutual drug supply and collaboration in nuclear medicine.

Also on Tuesday, Cabrisas met in the Russian capital with the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Denis Mánturov, and with the first vice president of the Central Bank of Russia, Vladimir Chistiujin, according to a report from the agency Latin Press (PL).

Likewise, the Cuban official held meetings with the head of the state oil company Rosneft, Igor Sechin, and the energy company Inter RAO, Boris Kovalchuk. According to sources on the Cuban side, managed by PL, current issues of development and deepening of economic, commercial and financial relations between the two countries were addressed in the exchanges, especially in the energy, industrial, air transport and banking spheres.

The Cuban deputy prime minister had talked on Monday with the president of the Russian Federation Council (Senate), Valentina Matvienko, about the current state of bilateral collaboration and the role that the parliaments of both countries must play to promote cooperation.

In that meeting, he thanked the resolutions approved by the Federation Council since 2016 against the United States embargo and recognized the humanitarian aid provided by Russia to the Island due to COVID, PL points out.

Putin ratifies the five years that Russia gave Cuba for debt payment

Cuba and Russia have promoted their bilateral relationship in recent years and both define this association as “strategic.” In 2014, Moscow forgave 90% of the debt contracted by the Island, valued at 35.3 billion dollars.

Shortly before the invasion of Ukraine, Russian authorities discussed the possibility of deploying Russian military infrastructure on the island, without this intention being officially confirmed.
