Madrid Spain.- The mother of the Cuban doctor Alexander Jesús Figueredo Izaguirre, who recently arrived in the United States, supported his son’s decision to leave Cuba.
Mrs, Ana Margarita Izaguirre, advised the doctor not to return to a country where he was “ignored and mistreated”, where “his present or his past did not matter”.
“Do not go back to where you were not valued, to where your sacrifices were suddenly erased, where sin spreads because lying is the goal to live comfortably,” he also said.
Recalling the harassment against her son by State Security, she indicated: “Don’t go back to where they treated you badly, where they didn’t care if you left or stayed, or if you felt cold or burned.”
Ana Margarita Izaguirre assured the Cuban doctor that he preferred “to see him far away than humiliated”.
Alexander Jesús Figueredo Izaguirre, sharing his mother’s words through Facebookstated: “If my mom tells me, then everything is said. I only return to Cuba the day the people take to the streets, or when there is freedom.”
This Tuesday Alexander Jesús Figueredo, a specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine and a resident of Urology, had offered details of his dangerous journey through the Darien jungle to reach the United States.
“A part of me died in the Darién jungle seeing lost children, drowned and dead people and not being able to do anything, just watch and continue and think that the next one could be me. My physical and human conditions are at the limit. God does not give burdens to any child who cannot bear it, I think the weight has passed with me, since the permanent harassment in Cuba, my profession, my family, and now all this, but it has made me stronger physically and ideologically” declared the doctor.
Last November Figueredo was disqualified from practicing his profession in Cuba, for continuing to denounce the violation of human rights by the regime and the problems of the Cuban health system.
