Elections 2022: more than 90% of members of political organizations did not vote in their internal elections

More than 90% of members of political organizations did not turn up to vote in the of last May 15, in order to elect their lists of candidates for the according to a report from the Electoral Process Operations Center of the (JNE).

The report deals with the participation and absenteeism of 59 political organizations that chose to carry out the aforementioned elections under the direct modality (affiliates).

At the regional level, the political organization that had the highest percentage of participation was the Autonomous National Christian Equality (INCA) with 35.38%, followed by the Regional Water Movement (Huancavelica) with 34.517%.

Instead, long live callao registered the highest level of absenteeism, since 98.629% of its affiliates did not go to the ballot boxes to elect their regional candidates.

It was followed by Aliados por el Cambio Junín with 98.19%, Nueva Amazonía (San Martin) with 97.67%, Organized Mission Via Integrity and Libertad (Loreto) with 96.75%, Tupac Regional Front (Cusco) with 96.68%, Bicentennial Regional Movement (La Libertad ) with 96.56% and the Patriotic Party of Peru (Lima) with 96.11%.

Regarding the election of candidates for municipal governments, the highest percentage of participation was reached by the Commitment and Development Political Movement with 40.77%. Meanwhile, the Hatun Llaqta Regional Movement (Apurímac) had more absenteeism, with 99.75%.

They were followed by Viva el Callao with 98.63%, Allies for Change Junín with 98.20%, Patriotic Party of Peru with 98%, Nueva Amazonía with 97.68%, Organized Mission Via Integrity and Freedom with 96.75%, Tupac Regional Front with 96.68%, Movimiento Regional Bicentennial with 96.56%, among others.

Regarding the affiliates who elected their delegates, greater absenteeism was reported in the Puro Áncash Regional Independent Movement, since no voting table was installed on May 15, as indicated in Report No. 001024- 2022-SGM-GPP/ONPE.

Participation and absenteeism of delegates

The COPE report also specifies that on the election day of May 22 (indirect mode), the delegates of 48 political organizations that presented candidacies at the regional level turned out in their entirety to cast their vote.

In the case of the regional movement join (La Libertad) participation was 96.42% and in the Peruvian Nationalist Action Movement (Ancash) and the frepapof 95.65% and 94.44%, respectively.

On the contrary, the movements Para la Transformación, Integración y Alianza-Patria (Tacna) and Movimiento Verde de Ucayali registered higher absenteeism, with 66.66% and 55.55%, respectively.

At the municipal level, delegates from 52 political organizations complied with 100% attendance. Similarly, 13 political organizations managed to get more than 90% to go to the polls, and five reached more than 80%.

As at the regional level, For the Transformation, Integration and Alliance-Homeland (Tacna) was the movement that had the highest absenteeism in the election of its municipal candidates (66.66%), followed by the Green Movement of Ucayali (55.55%).
