Residents of Bajo Chaco carry out intermittent closures to demand the paving of Route 12

Hoy Paraguay

Residents of Bajo Chaco began a series of demonstrations on Tuesday demanding the approval in Congress of a bill that is aimed at paving Route 12.

With intermittent closures, residents of the Bajo Chaco have demonstrated since Tuesday a few meters from the Villa Hayes toll. They also accompanied members of indigenous communities.

According to a report by the journalist of Universo 970 Nación Media, between 200 and 300 people were concentrated in the place, under strong police custody.

The protesters request the approval of the bill that contemplates a credit of 210 million dollars for the asphalting of Route 12.

Regarding the demonstration, engineer Osvaldo Ojeda indicated that some 10,000 residents are being affected by this situation.

“It is the only national road that is not paved. It is a real shame. What Congress is doing is aggressive, cajoning and blackmailing with the project”, he indicated.
