Chamber CCJ approves PEC that makes biofuels competitive

Enacted law authorizing gas stations to buy ethanol from producers

The Committee on Constitution and Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) of the Chamber of Deputies approved, this Monday (20), the admissibility of the Proposal for Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) 15/22, authored by the Senate, which seeks to stimulate the competitiveness of biofuels in relation to fossil fuels. The PEC predicts that clean energy sources will have benefits for at least 20 years.Chamber CCJ approves PEC that makes biofuels competitive

The proposal is part of a package of measures voted on by lawmakers to contain the rise in fuel prices.

The PEC’s rapporteur in the commission, deputy Danilo Forte (União-CE), presented a favorable opinion to the proposal and said that it is a complement to the Complementary Law Project 18/22, already approved by Congress, which limited ICMS rates fuel incidents.

According to the PEC, to ensure the collective right to a balanced environment, the government must maintain a tax regime that favors biofuels intended for final consumption. This benefit will take the form of a supplementary law that ensures lower taxation than the one levied on fossil fuels, capable of guaranteeing a competitive differential in relation to these.

The PEC will be analyzed by a special commission, already created by the Presidency of the Chamber, before moving on to the Plenary.
