In the past seven months, the administration committee of the Chamber of Deputies has approved resources for 118.8 million pesos to rehabilitate the facades of buildings C, G and I, as well as to remove the trees with pests that exist in the gardens of San Lázaro and improve the Internet network.
All of this is part of an extensive program of repairs that is carried out in the Legislative Palace, affected by earthquakes and the passage of time.
For the rehabilitation of the facade of building I, the committee allocated 90 million pesos last December. The agreement explains that it is urgent to replace the face of the building made with aluminum panels known as Alucobond, because it has reached the end of its useful life due to the years that have passed and the lack of maintenance.
Also at the end of last year, resources were approved for 21.2 million pesos for the acquisition and installation of fiber optics, switches and equipment for the redistribution of Internet network traffic.
The document endorsed by the deputies who are members of the committee indicates that San Lázaro currently has a voice and data network that requires increasing its availability and performance in order to attend to the new ways of operating derived from the covid-19 pandemic, since the date is made up of lower performance infrastructure, such as copper cables that limit the transfer speed and, consequently, the transmission of videoconferences and remote services.
Last March, the administrative body authorized the signing of a collaboration agreement with the UNAM Biology Institute for the removal and clearing of declining or dead trees in the chamber’s gardens. For this purpose, 3.6 million pesos will be available.
The agreement notes that trees in declining and dead conditions were already identified in a previous study. They must be removed because they represent a potential risk in terms of civil protection and are species that can spread diseases among healthy vegetation.
To the rehabilitation of the facades of buildings C and G, with the installation of a thermal finishing system, 4 million pesos will be channeled, says the administration committee.
