COVID-19: Mexico repeats more than 9,000 infections for the fourth consecutive day

Since Wednesday, June 15, the daily report went from 8,206 reported cases to 9,542. Since then, each day, the number has not dropped below 9,000. On Thursday there were 9,406 cases.

Until now, the federal government has not recognized a fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic that was declared in March 2020, but the Mexican Social Security Institute has called for a return to the recommended health measures at the most critical moments of the health crisis.

They cancel events in the center of CDMX

The Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, located in the center of CDMX, decided to cancel public events, tours and neighborhood meetings due to an increase in COVID-19 infections in recent weeks.

Through a statement and on social networks, the authorities in the demarcation indicated that according to recent official data, there is a record of almost 10,000 infections, which results in 415 people contracting the virus every hour.

Given this scenario, the mayor’s office decided to postpone the Race “To the Finish Line with Dad K5” for this Sunday, June 19, on the occasion of Father’s Day.

The announcement comes after this Saturday the government of Mexico City summoned thousands of residents of the capital to break the Guinness record in the Zócalo, one of the points with the highest concentration of people.

They will reinforce the protocols

In this statement, the mayor of Cuahtemoc Sandra Cuevas, highlighted that instructions have already been issued with different authorities of the demarcation to reinstate the sanitary protocols both in the mayor’s offices, as well as in sports and culture houses of that administration.
