The Zuazua effect at VivaAerobus

The Zuazua effect at VivaAerobus

Juan Carlos Zuazua, director of VivaAerobus for 12 years, likes to run and climb the mountains. He is a mentor, he chairs the Board of Directors of the Monterrey Tourism Cluster and last December he dressed up as The Grinch to live with his collaborators.

At the Monterrey airport (where its base of operations is located), it launched a pilot access plan with facial recognition and is already evaluating the possibility of accepting cryptocurrencies in some payments.

The airline in his charge operates a fleet of 59 aircraft, with an average age of 5.5 years, and in the following three years it will have at least 30 more from the manufacturer Airbus.

With its ultra-low-cost model, it ranks below Volaris and Aeroméxico in passenger transport within Mexico, although it is the airline that has registered the most growth in recent months.

The manager breaks the schemes among people who hold a similar position. Travel light.

Around him there are no teams that prevent you from approaching him. Wear a suit and tie when necessary. He usually extends his hand in greeting and on his Twitter account you can see him in a selfie at the Aragón station of Metro Line 5, heading to the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), as an alternate route to a day of locks.

In accordance with its expansion plans at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), where in a few weeks it will add flights to Cancún, Huatulco, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Acapulco and Havana, Cuba, which will be the first of international scope of a national company , has made about seven flights as a user from that terminal.

He assures his neighbors that it is a good infrastructure and that the terrestrial connectivity is adequate and the signage too, although it can and should improve.

In the unprecedented negotiations with the federal government to reduce the saturation of the AICM, he is the promoter of the proposal that Uber, Didi or Cabify be allowed to board passengers at the new airport to stimulate demand.

Currently the law does not allow it, nor in the AICM, although it will be a great stimulus to take more users from all airlines.

It is said that, due to its results, Zuazua has the full support of the president of the Board of Directors of VivaAerobus, Roberto Lázaro Alcántara Rojas, to whom he gives complete reports on daily activities and ongoing projects, such as the mega alliance with the low American Allegiant Air cost that promises a potential of 250 new direct routes, among them: South Bend, Indiana-Cancun or San Antonio-Puerto Vallarta.

By the way, if you look at the list of the main executives of the airline you will find that the director of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs is Alejandra Ochoa, a distinguished person who has worked for the company for the same 16 years as Zuazua.

Both know VivaAerobus from wing to wing and are key players on a day-to-day basis.
