Fernando Lugo, national senator for the Guasu Front and former president of the Republic, called a meeting of presidential candidates for opposition parties. The meeting took place at his home on Friday morning.
“Several times I asked myself, why don’t the political class sit down to debate? and many times we highlight our differences more than our similarities. Those of us who are here today have many differences of all kinds but we have said this morning that when the country is at stake, its present and its future, our differences are minimal. The Concertación is the great unity of the citizen sector », he commented.
He said that the Guasu Front will join the Coalition on Monday to contribute and continue adding.
8 candidates participated; Esperanza Martínez, Kattya González, Soledad Núñez, Euclides Acevedo, Hugo Fleitas, Martín Burt, Efraín Alegre and Hugo Portillo.
They were only absent; Herminio Ruiz Díaz, from the PLRA, Paraguayan “Payo” Cubas, who is in Buenos Aires, meeting with compatriots who live in said city, and Sebastián Villarejo, candidate for Patria Querida, who, due to differences with Lugo and the Guasu Front, decided not to attend.
Given the latter, Hugo Fleitas commented that they will continue the dialogue. And that everyone should join.
“The important things we cannot do any game alone. We should get together even with people with whom we disagree. But we must all seek unity. We continue with open arms. I am sure that they will continue in the Coalition until the end », he stated.
The presidential tag must be defined before August 30 to be presented in the Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE).
