The Council for the Reform of the Justice System, convened for this Friday, June 17, by the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, ended without reaching any agreement due to lack of a quorum.
This was reported by the head of the Judiciary, Elvia Barrios, who explained that the president of the Constitutional Court (TC) did not attend, Augusto Ferrero-Costaand the head of the Legislative Power, Maria del Carmen Alva (People’s Action).
“Unfortunately there has not been a quorum to make decisions. The president of the Constitutional Court has not attended, nor has the president of the Legislative Power. In the case of the president of the National Board of Justice (Henry Ávila), he has justified his absence and that is stating that he is in full interviews for the supreme judges that they are going to appoint ”he referred.
Barrios Alvarado also pointed out that another absentee was the Nation’s prosecutor, Pablo Sánchez, who today questioned the head of state for more than three hours in the framework of the investigation for alleged acts of corruption committed in tenders within the Ministry of Transport and Communications. (MTC).
“The norm for the creation of the Council for the Reform of the Justice System establishes that 5 votes are needed to reach an agreement and today only 4 people have participated. I add to this that the National Prosecutor did not attend either. He has not given any justification for his absence.”narrowed down
“(María del Carmen Alva) has not attended and we have not been given any explanation for her absence”added the head of the Power of attorneywho indicated that, despite not reaching any agreement, a “wide conversation” was held on sensitive issues within the justice system.
“We have talked about the flagrante delicto units led by the Judiciary that will work from July 1 in Trujillo and logically the commitment has been foreseen that this will be deployed to other judicial districts”he stated.
“We have proposed that this be deployed to the city of Lima and the commitment for now to evaluate the president to grant us the necessary budget to all the institutions so that this can be applied in Lima”he added.
