José Manuel del Río Virgen obtains freedom

This release order comes one day after a district judge granted an injunction to José Manuel del Río Virgen, who was serving as technical secretary of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) of the Senate.

Del Río Virgen was arrested in Veracruz for allegedly committing the crime of intentional homicide against René Tovar, a candidate for mayor of Cazones de Herrera.

Senator Ricardo Monreal Ávila confirmed the legal situation on Thursday:

“A federal judge determined that the concepts of rape vs. José Manuel del Río Virgen and grants him amparo so that, by executing the sentence, the local judge leaves the previous resolution unsubstantiated and issues an order NOT LINKING TO THE PROCESS. He will thus obtain his freedom, ”he wrote on his Twitter account.

According to the district judge, the link to the process of the technical secretary of the Jucopo does not meet the constitutional requirements or the National Code of Criminal Procedures.

José Manuel del Río Virgen was linked to the process last December after a 28-hour hearing.
