MIAMI, United States. — Relatives of protesters on July 11, 2021 (J11) in the municipality of Güira de Melena, province of Mayabeque, denounced that the appeal trial of the sentences took place this Friday without the presence of the prisoners.
The fact was spread by the activist Marcel Valdés, who shared in social networks a video filmed by the relatives of the inmates themselves.
“Today, as everyone knows, the appeal trial of the July 11 protesters in the Güira de Melena municipality was held, something unacceptable happened: they held the trial without the prisoners, the relatives are outraged,” the young man wrote on his Facebook profile.
In the images shared by Valdés, the relatives of the prisoners showed their disagreement with what happened in the appeal trial.
“The oral hearing of all the Güira prisoners has just ended. We are not satisfied with what happened because they did not bring the detainees. However, they did bring those who were on the street and asked if they had anything to say,” said Yuleidy López González, wife of the independent journalist. Jorge Bello Dominguezsentenced in April to 15 years in prison for his participation in the 11J protests.
“We wanted our relatives to be here because they are prisoners, they are not dogs, and they had many things to say in the protests. The lawyers did their job well. Let’s wait, to see what the Prosecutor determines, “he added.
Another of the mothers of one of the 11J protesters points out that what they did with the prisoners was “a crime.”
“I am suffering for my son. This was a crime because they didn’t bring them. They did not have the opportunity to defend themselves,” the woman lamented.
