MIAMI, United States. — Baseball players Alfredo Fadraga and Yosvani Ávalos, members of the Cuba team that is participating in the U-23 Pan American Baseball Championship that takes place in Aguascalientes, Mexico, will be returned to the island after they tried to escape from the concentration of the national team.
The news was advanced this Friday by the journalist and writer specialized in baseball Francys Romero. According to the reporter, the goal is for the players not to try to escape again.
“Alfredo Fadraga and Yosvani Ávalos will travel to Cuba today and are being taken to the Mexico City airport right now. Terrible reality that they will have to face now returning to Cuba”, indicates the information published by Romero.
According to the reporter, Fadraga and Ávalos had left the concentration last Wednesday, but returned 24 hours later to the Ramada hotel where the Cuban team is staying.
The players could be severely sanctioned upon their return to the island, especially after a statement from the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) described their initial abandonment as a breach “of the commitment made to the delegation and the homeland.”
