The senator for the Open Cabildo party, Guido Manini Ríos, again denied that he, his wife Irene Moreira, and her father, Roque Moreira, are settlers, despite the fact that a report by the Legal Counsel of the Colonization Institute, quoted by the weekly Search in a Article Thursday, assures that they exploit a land of 2,856 hectares as settlers.
Different sources cited by the media assert that the advisory ratified the condition. According to the publication, the company El Palomar SA is currently the owner of fractions No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 of a piece of land that entered the orbit of the institute in 1970, and the Minister of Housing is the president of said public limited company.
Manini says it is a political maneuver
In a press conference, Manini Ríos said that “a soldier, by definition, cannot be a settler. The settler has the obligation to live on the property and the military cannot live on a rural property permanently”.
“The question that arises is: Colonization did not realize that there were military personnel in activity who were settlers? Didn’t you realize a few years ago that the commander in chief of the Army was a settler? Did not (Andrés) Berterreche himself, the current director who was president of Colonization, know at the time that he had the commander in chief of the Army as a colonist? questioned the far-right legislator.
And he continued firing questions: “Isn’t it surprising that a week before the referendum, all this was made public? I am convinced that we are facing a political maneuver that is seeking to discredit, discredit, misrepresent, sow doubt and deceive.”
