New plan to combat micro-trafficking dismantled 82 drug dealers in its first month

Authorities of the Ministry of the Interior, headed by the head of the portfolio Luis Alberto Heber, presented this Thursday the first balance of the plan “Metropolitan Task Force to Fight Micro-trafficking and Drug Dealing”, at the end of the first month of its implementation. .

Among the highlights of the minister is the dismantling of a total of 82 drug outlets in the metropolitan area, which includes the departments of Montevideo, Canelones and San José.

Present at the press conference, held at the ministry’s headquarters, were the Undersecretary of the Interior, Guillermo Maciel; Director of the National Police, Diego Fernández; the Montevideo Police chiefs, Mario D’Elía; from Canelones, Víctor Trezza, and from San José, Orestes Da Silva

Heber highlighted the work of “a dynamic Police that shows good results.” Likewise, he assured that in this second quarter of the year the downward trend in crimes of theft and robbery is ratified.

Fernández explained that the creation of this force was the product of an analysis carried out previously in order to optimize resources. Likewise, he pointed out that the results speak of efficacy and effectiveness in a “positive first evaluation”.

The operating data

For his part, Mario D’Elía reported that after 82 raids, which culminated in the dismantling of the same number of drug sales outlets, of which 11 were boarded up. mouth,” he added.

The raids were carried out, as explained, in the towns of San José de Mayo city, Ciudad del Plata, Canelones city Las Piedras and Canelones. On the other hand, in the country’s capital, interventions were carried out in different neighborhoods, such as Peñarol, Villa Española, Conciliación, Cetro and Centro.

The Montevideo Police Chief added that 89 people were arrested, of which 69% received a prison sentence or formalization. On the other hand, the authorities managed to seize several kilos of cocaine worth 80 thousand dollars; cannabis for $7,600 and cocaine base paste along with other synthetic drugs for $66,000. All this based on the market value of the substances.

Likewise, the Police seized a total of 1,819,621 pesos, 13 weapons and 10 vehicles. All this will remain under the orders of the National Drug Board.

“The work of attacking the middle distributor is also underway. On this occasion, we only show the fight against micro-trafficking”, said D’Elía.

“The strategic plan that was pointed out did not exist, it does exist,” Heber said. The chief announced that they will make monthly reports on the performance of this task force.
