With two days to go before the end of the Paralympic Swimming World Championship, which is held at the Funchal Olympic Swimming Pool Complex, on Madeira Island (Portugal), Brazil has already secured the country’s best campaign in the competition’s history.
The feat was achieved after the Brazilian delegation added another five medals this Thursday (16th) (four golds and one bronze), reaching a total of 41 throughout the competition (15 golds, eight silvers and 18 bronzes).

Two highlights of Brazil this Thursday were Maria Carolina Santiago, from Pernambuco, who took gold in the 100-meter freestyle in the S12 class (visually impaired), her fifth in the competition, and Gabriel Bandeira, who won and set the world record in the 200-meter medley (SM14).
“I managed to fit the race the way I wanted, and it was even better, because the world record came. I made a very big effort to reach this record, when I got to my head it was hurting”, declared the athlete, who finished the race in 2min7s51.
