Grêmio survived in the fight to remain in the Serie A of the Brazilian Championship. This Thursday (2), the Gauchos beat São Paulo 3-0 at the Arena, in Porto Alegre, for the 35th round of the competition.

The Tricolor from Rio Grande do Sul is in the relegation zone, in 18th position, now with 39 points, three behind Athletico-PR, the first team outside the Z4 and that plays on Friday (3) against Cuiabá, at 19:00 (GMT) , at the Arena da Baixada, in Curitiba. The Dourado is also a direct competitor of the Grêmio fans in the fight against the fall, as it has 43 points, in 15th place.
São Paulo, in turn, lost the chance to get rid of the risk of relegation altogether. The Tricolor paulista is in 12th place, with 45 points, five less than Bahia, 17th place and first team in the Z4. The Morumbi club was also far from the vacancy in the next Libertadores, remaining three points behind América-MG, which appears in eighth and, at this moment, would be going to the preliminary phase of the continental tournament.
Grêmio entered the field more connected and pressured from the beginning. On minute 12, midfielder Jaminton Campaz left Thiago Santos, without a goalkeeper, in a position to submit. The defensive midfielder hit the first time, but defender Miranda, with his leg, saved São Paulo. The shirt 5 redeemed himself ten minutes later when he headed in a cross from the left side of defender Diogo Barbosa, opening the scoring. The hosts pulled back the lines and the visitors tried to control the offensive actions, but without giving goalkeeper Gabriel Grando any trouble.
The home team resumed its offensive posture on the way back from the break. On minute six, Ferreira received it on the left, escaped three markers and kicked close to the crossbar. At 21, the forward took midfielder Igor Gomes and hit the post. Afterwards, Diogo Barbosa, with his right leg, hit goalkeeper Tiago Volpi’s angle, extending the advantage from the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The third didn’t come out on the 24th because forward Miguel Borja completed (on the crossbar) Campaz’ low cross from the left.
In stoppage time, there was still time for Jhonata Robert to score a great goal. On minute 48, the midfielder took advantage of the pivot made by Borja in midfield, saw Tiago Volpi early and sent it to cover, to the delight of the 9,312 fans present at Arena do Grêmio.
On Sunday (5), at 4 pm, Grêmio will visit Corinthians at the Neo Química Arena, in the city of São Paulo. The next day, at 7pm, São Paulo hosts Juventude no Morumbi. The games are valid for the 37th round of the Brazilian Nationals.
