The VI Regional Meeting of Rural Youth of the Region of the Central American Integration System (SICA), was inaugurated by the Minister of Agricultural Development, Augusto Valderrama, in an act that brought together in Panama technicians, representatives of rural development and leaders of the rural youth, to discuss the challenges and priorities for action in the region.
Valderrama said that this congress is a beacon for all the youth of the world and that united in favor of social justice, we will have a more dignified land for all the young people of this planet, with access to work, technology and education, so that they can become promoters of development in these times of pandemic and war.
He stressed that this project has the purpose of integrating all the youth of the region into leadership for social transformation, through the support of organizations and governments, to work on rural development and prevent them from abandoning the fields in search of new opportunities.
At the Regional Meeting, which will take place for three consecutive days in Panama, the challenges and priorities for action of the Regional Strategy for Rural Youth in the SICA Region (2022-2030) will be discussed, in order to promote regional coherence, guarantee efficiency and guide the work of the Executive Secretariat of the Central American Agricultural Council for priority areas, as well as promote the approval agreement of this instrument by the Central American Agricultural Council.
The Regional Strategy is the result of a participatory consultation process, during which the necessary action measures were prioritized and validated to facilitate and ensure better access for rural youth to resources, opportunities and investments in rural development plans and programs. at national and territorial level.
During the act, the head of the MIDA announced the creation of the National Directorate of Rural Youth in the MIDA, after receiving a study presented by the young Jesús Ocampo, Selena Pimental and Aidé Montenegro. In addition, students from the Higher Technical Institute of the Americas made a musical presentation at the event.
The VI Meeting is held with the support of the Ministry of Agricultural Development, the Central American Integration System (SICA), the Executive Secretariat of the Central American Agricultural Council (SECAC), PROCASUR and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), among others. They were accompanied at the main table by the head of MIDA, Juan Diego Ruiz Cumplido (FIDA); Juan Moreno, from PROCASUR; Lucrecia Rodríguez, secretary of the CAC and Roy Frías, vice minister in charge of MIDA.
