The use of a mask It ceased to be mandatory as of this Thursday in closed places and public transport in the City of Buenos Aires, Although its use is still recommended in these contexts, said the Minister of Health of the City of Buenos Aires, Fernán Quirós, at a conference in which he reported that reported cases of coronavirus have been declining for 14 days.
“It is clearly seen that the curve of this Ómicron (variant of coronavirus) is completing its journey and in this context we have made the decision to move from the condition of the use of a mandatory mask. indoors and on public transport to recommended use, which means that we continue to recommend its use, but people will have the autonomy to decide,” said the minister.
The new provision was established by means of an official resolution published this Thursday in the Official Gazette of the City of Buenos Aires.
Quirós pointed out that “the norm is general for all places”, that is, it includes educational establishments, public offices, public transportation, among other spaces.
“It is time to transfer autonomy to citizens, who already know how to take care of themselves, how the contagion situation is, and then they will decide what is the best decision for themselves and their loved ones,” he indicated.
“It would be desirable for people to continue using the mask while we are in closed places, especially while this winter period is over, what we are saying is that it is no longer mandatory,” he emphasized.
Since October 2021, the use of the mask outdoors was no longer mandatory, even in places with a concentration of people in the City of Buenos Aires; furthermore, in mid-March of this year it was established that its use would become optional for students of all levels in City schools.
Quiros recalled that 97% of the population have the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, 95% have the second and reported that 2,126,456 first booster doses and 710,417 second booster doses were appliedwhich represents practically 70% and 25% of the population, respectively.
In relation to the cases, it was described that there has been a decrease in notifications for more than 14 days and that if it is analyzed by swab date “it is clearly seen that the Ómicron curve is completing its journey”.
