On a day with four gold medals, Brazil won 13 medals and took third place in the medal table of the Paralympic Swimming World Championship, which is held at the Complex of Olympic Swimming Pools in Funchal, on Madeira Island (Portugal).

This Wednesday (15), the Brazilian delegation had an outstanding performance, in which the golds achieved by Maria Carolina Santiago, in the 100 meters breaststroke of the S12 class (visual impairment), Gabriel Araújo, in the 200 meters freestyle (S2), stood out. ), Maria Gesteira, in the 100-meter freestyle (S9), and by the 49-point 49-point medley relay team for athletes with visual impairments, with Carol Santiago (S12), Lucilene Sousa (S12), José Luís Perdigão (S12) and Guilherme Batista (S12).
With the achievements of this Wednesday, Brazil reached a total of 36 in the competition (11 gold, eight silver and 17 bronze). Thus, the Brazilian team took the third position overall in the medal table, behind the leader Italy (16 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze) and the USA (14 gold, three silver and three bronze).

A highlight of the Brazilian team was Gabriel Araújo, known as Gabrielzinho, who broke the competition record in the 200-meter freestyle in the S2 class with a time of 3:59.06: “It was the perfect race, I did more than I expected to do. This time I did was a long term goal, swimming under 4min was just for next year, I’m getting faster every day”.
