The president of the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo), elizabeth menahighlighted that this entity arrived this Wednesday at its half century leading the impulse of that productive line, improving conditions for the sector, promoting changes in public policies and playing a leading role in generating foreign exchange and formal employment, contributing to the economic development of the country.

When celebrated this Wednesday, June 15, the 50th anniversary of adoexpo and the National Day of the Exporterthe president of this entity highlighted the potential that this sector has and expressed that “today we can affirm that the Dominican Republic of 1972, when Adoexpo was created, is not the same, there have been many changes political, economic and social that we have had, becoming resilient, innovative, diversified and competitive”.

Mena cited among the achievements, the vigorous growth of the sector, the behavior of exports in the latter quarter of the year, which totaled US$4,128.74 million, for a growth of 9.87% compared to January-April 2021 and 31.69% compared to the same period in 2019, the pre-pandemic year.
Regarding the regime with the largest export, he said that it was free zones with an amount of US$2,513.10 million, with a growth of 12.66% year-on-year, and 33.49% compared to the same period in 2019; while in the National regime exported US$1,504.37 million, growing 5.86% compared to the January-April period of 2021 and 32.53% compared to the same period in 2019.
The president of Adoexpo indicated that exports of the free zone regime in the first quarter of 2022 represented 60.87% of total exports, and the national export regime represented 36.44%.
He stated that the gold is the main item exported, with US$470.74 millionfor the first quarter of the year, representing 11.40% of total exports.
In second place, medical instruments and devices stand out with an export value of US$465.46 million, representing 11.27% of exports for this period, growing 37.12% year-on-year and 101.91% compared to the same period in 2019, the pre-pandemic year. In third place are cigarettes with US$320.55 million, which represent 7.76% of the total exported.

Mena expressed that the “The top 10” of the destination countries for Dominican exports comprise 86.55% of total exports in the first quarter of 2022, made up of the United States, which remains our largest trading partner, accounting for 51% of total exports; followed by Haiti (9.60%), Switzerland (8.50%), Puerto Rico (5.38%), the Netherlands (3.22%), China (2.99%), India (2.88%), Germany (1.08%), Italy (0.95% ) and Spain (0.88%).
