A steel water tank collapsed and hit a building in Condomínio Leme II, a housing complex located in the Santa Cruz neighborhood, in the west of Rio de Janeiro. The episode took place this morning (15). The Fire Department was called to respond to the incident shortly after 8 am.
The fall of the water tank, which has a structure of approximately 15 meters in height, reached part of the terrace of the building, which has five floors. According to information from the Fire Department, a 31-year-old resident was injured. The victim received first aid at the scene and was taken to Pedro II Municipal Hospital.
Condomínio Leme II was inaugurated in 2014 and is part of the federal government’s housing program, Minha Casa Minha Vida. The municipal Civil Defense interdicted the affected building. The water tank, manufactured by a third-party company, will undergo technical expertise and the cause of the problem is being investigated,” the company said.
In 2020, a similar situation occurred in Cariacica (ES), in the metropolitan region of Vitória. Two water tanks gave way at Residencial São Roque, also linked to the Minha Casa Minha Vida program. The episode took place just two weeks after the condominium opened.
