Madrid Spain.- Scholarship students from the University of Camagüey “Ignacio Agramonte” joined in a protest this Tuesday due to the constant effects electricity and water supply.
After more than ten hours without power, this Tuesday the demonstration broke out in the university center.
In various videos shared on social networks, it can be seen that the young people came out of the shelters and from different parts of the compound and chanted over and over again “Water, Current!”, “Put on the current pinga”, accompanied by saucepans.
The demonstration managed to restore the electrical service and the first vice-chancellor, Julio Madera Quintana, and other University authorities went to the place.
the college magazine Alma mater, one of the official media that has referred to the event, specified that “the reasons were related to repeated damage to the electrical service and the lack of water.”
“It is known that the Board of Directors maintains a dialogue with the students. The University is calm,” he said. Alma mater downplaying the mass demonstration.
The journalist José Raúl Gallego, who was a professor at the University of Camagüey, declared through Facebook: “Students at the University of Camagüey, as in most Cuban scholarships, live in quite deplorable conditions: windows tied to the bunks with ropes, leaks, poor lighting, lack of transportation, mattresses and bunk beds in very poor condition, a few hours of water a day, lousy food and they are prevented from having electric burners in the rooms because when they connect them the wiring overloads and the electricity goes out. In these conditions they have to assume high loads of studies, physical exercises and work and participation in political and extra-educational activities”.
