the coordinator of the Plant Health Program of the Departmental Agricultural Service (Sedacruz), Jaime Chavez reported on the damage caused by frost in the valleys of Santa Cruz. For three consecutive days, the recorded temperature was below 0°C. An improvement in the weather is expected for the next few days.
From the Government they get reported 2,893 hectares affected by frost. Most of these, some 2,200, correspond to pastures.
“In greater proportion it was recorded (…) in the lower area of post valleywhere usually frosts are reported every 10 years. To a lesser extent, potato, tomato, paprika, wheat, corn, pumpkin, lettuce, and green bean crops are affected,” Chavez said.
Despite the frosts, Sedacruz considers that it will not affect the supply of the markets. The production of vegetables and greens in Los Negros and Mairana were not affected in any wayreflects the report.
On the other hand, Julio César Claure, head of the SIC Santa Cruz, reported that Monday night was the third day in which frosts were recorded in the area of Postrervalle, Quirusillas, Vallegrande and part of Moro Moro, where temperatures dropped to -4.8ºC.
“This is the second frost of the year and there are chances that new ones can be recorded; however, from the Government we will be monitoring to send alerts so that producers can take mitigation measures, ”he added.
The weather forecasts for the coming days predict a gradual improvement in temperatures.
