The Nicaraguan National Assembly approved early this Tuesday the entry of foreign troops into the country, including Russians, despite criticism from the United States, which has warned of possible consequences, such as seriously analyze the exclusion of Managua of a major trade agreement.
The decree authorizing the entry of troops “for humanitarian purposes” was sent to the Assembly by President Daniel Ortega and approved “as a matter of urgency” with 78 votes in favor, 0 against and 11 abstentions.
The approval of the proposal comes at a time when Russia faces increasing isolation due to the war that began in Ukraine on February 24, which has led to a wave of sanctions against the Kremlin by the international community.
