Fuertes is re-released, a story that unites football with war

As in football, the movie “Forts” will play from this Thursday a second definitive time. This production premiered in October 2019, achieving a good response from the public in the few days it was on the billboard, until the social and political conflicts that occurred in that month forced its projections to be suspended. It was scheduled again for April 2020, but the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic again cut short that longing. Finally, this Thursday, June 16, it will have its long-awaited revivaland with a surprise: a new production by directors Óscar Salazar and Franco Traverso.

“Powerful”, which will have its premiere this Tuesday, June 6 at Cinemark, narrates the true story of a group of footballers, fans and managers of The Strongest club from La Paz who, in the 1930s, when Bolivia was fighting in the Chaco War against Paraguay, decided to enlist in the army and fight.

The film cost more than a million dollars; one of the most expensive of recent times in national cinema. “We are looking forward to it and are very excited, hoping that things go well for us so that people see this new cut, which will contribute a lot to the first one that we presented in 2019”, said Franco Traverso, one of the directors of “Fuertes” .

Meanwhile, Óscar Salazar pointed out that with the new montage the film has been reduced by about seven minutes. “We simply believe that we have been able to improve the pace of editing. There were some parts that suddenly slowed down a little bit and we’ve worked on that. We have also added emotional scenes at the end, which is the most powerful part of the movie. Actually, we have optimized so that this re-release is not just that: a simple re-release, but that it has a new, improved version”, stated Salazar.

It was worth it
The forced suspension they had from theaters in 2019 was a terrible decision for both directors, who were excited by the response from the public. In addition, Salazar and Traverso se lamented the little support they had during pre-production and production to make the film.

“We were surprised by the little support from private companies, we expected a little more. From the State we had some support, but it was also minimal, almost symbolic”Salazar pointed out, adding that with these contributions they did not recover much of the total investment in “Fuertes”, which exceeded one million dollars.

Despite all these inconveniences, Traverso assured that they do not regret having done it. “At the end of the day, after all the bad things, the product is beautiful,” said the director.
The Chaco War was a turning point in Bolivian history, hence the importance of filming this film for directors. “In addition, this story of The Strongest was little known, that was also more motivating when we wanted to start writing the script,” said Salazar.
