Jacobo Ramos also understands that passing the EDE administration would cause the massive dismissal of workers and employees
The National Confederation of Dominican Workers (CNTD) affirmed that handing over the administration of the electricity distribution companies (EDE) to the private sector would increase the cost of electricity service to the consumer, and would cause the massive dismissal of workers and employees.
Under the argument of “capitalizing” them, the government wants the private sector to take over the EDEs, something that happened a few years ago with a negative balance, ”said Jacobo Ramos, president of the CNTD.
The CNTD recalled that the time it handed over the EDEs to the businessmen, the electricity tariff became more expensive and even so it broke them, forcing the government at that time to acquire them to save them from total disaster.
“That is why it is surprising that they intend to repeat history, now with the modality called” public private alliance “, which does not augur success if the real problem of EDEs is not faced, which is a large part of the population” steals the electricity ” and business, industrial and commercial sectors are subsidized, “said Ramos.
He considered that the Government cannot evade its responsibility to administer a vital and strategic service.
