According to the authority, the tree is checked and watered every 24 hours since it arrived from the Nezahualcóyotl Nursery, from Nuevo León.
Sedema said that it is expected that in two or three months the tree will lose between 30% and 40% of its foliage.
The ahuehuetes continue to grow until they measure between 30 and 40 meters in height, the authority detailed.
“Prior to its planting, the soil of the Glorieta received preventive treatment, biological agents were applied and the soil was improved with substrates that guarantee the good development of the ahuehuete root. In addition to the rooting application in the root ball of the tree to stimulate the good development of new roots, ”he added.
Sedema took advantage of the message to ask citizens “not to climb to the base of the tree so that the soil does not compact and allows the hydration and good adaptation of the ahuehuete”.
It was at the beginning of June when the ahuehuete occupied its new home in the Glorieta de la Palma.
This space was empty after the palm was removed on April 25, a 22-meter specimen that had been there since the beginning of the 20th century and that died affected by a fungus.
