In less than six months, through the “Pacifying my neighborhood, building the future” program, the Ministry of Security together with the Ministry of Government have delivered more than 126,700 dollars in vouchers, recovering more than 39,000 ammunition, 467 firearms, fire, two ammunition reloaders, explosives and accessories that represent a danger to peaceful coexistence.
This Program, which began in the province of Panama, in the districts of San Miguelito and the Capital, arrived a week ago in the province of Colón where, in the Altos de Los Lagos sector, some 7 firearms have already been removed from the streets. fire, 881 ammunition and a 12-millimeter caliber ammunition reloader.
According to Commissioner Elida Ortega, Inspector General of the National Police and supervisor of the program by the Minseg this week, from June 15 to 17, the Program will be transferred to the Ismael Laguna Gymnasium in the community of Arco Iris and later, to other sectors such as Barrio Norte, Barrio Sur, Sabanitas, Cativá, among others, and will be in the province for a period of 2 months.
The commissioner explained that to be a beneficiary of the program exchanging weapons for vouchers, the person is not asked for any personal information or the origin of the weapons, since everything is completely confidential.
