Likewise, when referring to the non-compliance with the resolutions of the Security Council on the matter and international law, he urged that the Security Council show unequivocal signs of its action to fulfill its main responsibility to maintain peace and security, reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Likewise, he reaffirmed the importance that said United Nations body find within itself the means to overcome its internal differences in order to comply with its own decisions.
It is noteworthy that this historic meeting of the General Assembly was held in accordance with resolution 76/262, approved by consensus on April 26 last.
This new mechanism that strengthens transparency and accountability allows all members of the United Nations to speak out on issues of international peace and security, issues that previously remained, in practice, under the exclusive purview of the Security Council.
It should be noted that on May 26, a Security Council Draft Resolution regarding North Korea was not approved, as a result of the vote against by two permanent members (veto), thus activating, for the first time, the mechanism established in the resolution 76/262. (IP)
